Tonight we learned about the importance of being friends with someone of the opposite sex before we date them. We talked about the personality traits that our friends may have that might make them unattractive to us. We learned about bragging and how this can be annoying to us when we are getting to know someone. Then we acted out short skits where we practiced what it meant to brag about ourselves to someone we were friends with. The following are comments about the lesson from the group.
Anne: My character in the play we did tonight was a little bit selfish. In the end he didn't get to be included in what everyone else was doing. I also did a skit earlier this afternoon in Bethany's class. We did one on not raining on someone's parade.
Erin: we take about bad small's and frineds ship like boyfriends and girlfriend and we take about relaships to and we did lttile plays to it was a lot of fun it was a good class today they we take about friends like boy and girl friends it was a lot of fun i lerad a lot in book club.

Hi from Anne
Friday I have a little planned. On Friday afternoon, I am going to see that Despicable Me. I'm going with my friends Bethany and Jaron. On Saturday, our plan is to make one of the cake recipes that my grandma used to make. Today was kind of boring. I have to volunteer tomorrow and I'm looking forward to 74 degrees. I it when it is 70 - 60 degree weather.

Anne says hi
One bit of news that I have is that a couple of my mom's friends want me to do some embroidery for them. I might have some orders. Me and Bryce are going to Derek's birthday party. It is a bowling party and then we go back to his house to have Dairy Queen cake. Sometime this weekend, I need to move my blog to my other computer. The whole thing doesn't work since the gave it to me.
This weekend because it is too hot, me and my family are going to see that new Tom Cruise movie. I might be going to see Wicked when it is in Minneapolis.

Anne's Update
Last week at book club we played bingo and had supper. Everybody had a good time at my house. I had to work earlier today. Today was my last day at work until fall when I go back. I've got summer off. On Saturday I went bowling with Bryce and Derek. Friday night, me and Bryce went to see the new Robin Hood movie. Some of the movie was kind of boring and slow. I really liked Iron Man 2 and I want to see it again.

Anne's Corner
This weekend we are going to go to Omaha for a couple of days. On Saturday night I am going to go to the Storms game with Friendslink. Yesterday we went out to lunch and stuff with Derek and his mom. We went to the Grill 26. After that we looked at some stuff at Hobby Lobby because I needed to get some more embroidery thread to help me finish my second pillow case. Once I get that second one, I can bring it to class to show everyone. It is almost April Fools Day. Next Thursday I think it is. I had to work today. We are going to watch a movie tonight, Love's Enduring Promise. I've got to volunteer tomorrow at the Sanford Stevens Center. We are going to mall next week. I am leaning toward Subway or Burger King to eat for next week.

First Class of Spring
Ok, I'll admit, having the first class of spring isn't as exciting as seeing the first tulip bloom, the last snowdrift melt or even the first robin, but I'm excited none the less. I'm happy to see us moving into warmer weather as I think it will give us many opportunities to get outside and explore. Like our class is called - Discover Together! We also start our new books this week - boy, things really couldn't get better. Unless someone decides to bring me a chocolate Easter bunny :).
Remember that tomorrow night we are having class at the Ronning Branch Library. This is the library on 49th & Southeastern - not our favorite place to meet, but I like that we will have internet access there. I put a survey on this blog and want to have everyone vote!
Here is the agenda for tomorrow night:
Erin is our leader.

Time to Celebrate Spring at Class!
I keep praying to someone that spring is truly here. I'm not sure if anyone is listening, but at least I finally had enough snow melt on my roof that I could take down my Christmas lights. I'm sure all my neighbors were thankful for that as well! Class tomorrow night is going to be held at Morningside Community Center on 2400 S Bahnson Ave - sounds like many of you already know this location because of some previous Friends activities. Next week we meet over at the Ronning Branch library again. Hope everyone enjoys their evening & here is the agenda for tomorrow night. Think Spring!!!

Update on Class
Tuesday night went well. We spent some time talking more about the location of our class. Some want to try to have class in the same place every week while others are really enjoying moving around to different places. Since there was no concensus, we decided to continue to rotate class, but to not have class at Kenny Anderson Community Center again.
All of the participants brought home letters last week for their families. The letters had options for hosting class and for signing up to car pool. If you haven't seen the letter yet, please ask your son/daughter.

Countdown to Class!
I'm really excited for us all to get back together again this week. Now that we are getting into the swing of things again, I really look forward to every Tuesday night. Remember that we are meeting over at the Kenny Anderson Community Center - this is hooked on to the Anne Sullivan Elementary School. It is a new place for us to meet, so it will be a learning experience for all of us. I also reserved places for our other times in March and I'll share those with you tomorrow night. Can't wait to see you all!

Update on Tuesday's Class
I'm writing this post while also watching the Olympics. Wow, I wish I had some of those athlete's energy! Speaking of Olympics, this is how we started off our night on Tuesday. We talked about our favorite sport to watch - all of us agreed that you must have to be crazy to do some of those sports, like downhill skiing.
We talked a lot about some of the topics we want to start learning about. There were some great ideas and I have a lot of work ahead of me to start preparing some new lessons. I'll be visiting with Kristin to get some of her resources to use in developing some plans for future classes. A couple of the main ideas included advocating for ourselves, dating tips and ideas and taking care of our money so we are able to do the fun things that we want to.
We watched another People Smart video and then ended up the night with reading our book. We are getting closer to the end of the book, so I need to order the new ones soon. I think we are all ready to read something new :).
Remember that class is at the Kenny Anderson Community Center next Tuesday. This is hooked on to the Anne Sullivan Elementary. They said they would have some signs up with arrows pointing the way to our room. The signs should either say my name or book club. I'll also try to be there early enough to greet everyone at the front door.

Letter Coming Home
I sent a letter home with everyone last night, so if you haven't received it yet, please check with them. The letter addresses their requests to host class at their houses and a couple of other requests that I had from families to arrange carpooling. You do not need to respond to either of these requests, only if you want to.
Class will be at the Kenny Anderson Community Center next week - this is a new location for us. I apologize that it is so far away for many of you, but it was the only place I could book. I also sent a new schedule home last night and will continue to look for creative places to hold class. Thanks to all of you for your ideas!
Look for another post tomorrow night on what we did for class this week. It was a great class, even though our room was incredibly chilly :). Have a great night!

Great to be back!
I really had a lot of fun Tuesday getting back together with everyone. As you can see from the earlier posts, we spent a lot of time reviewing the decisions that were made when we met with everyone last in January. We also planned for some new activities and read our books.
I wanted to make sure that everyone had their opinions heard. To do that, I had everyone, on their own, rate how they felt about the decisions that were already made. Everyone filled out the form by themselves and then had an option to list other things that they would like to see. I compiled the results and then we talked about each item in detail. At the end, everyone had a chance to vote if they wanted to move forward with our decision. There was only one item that did not pass by a unanimous vote, but even then everyone was happy with the final decisions.
So, you are probably wondering what those decisions were, aren't you? Well, not to keep you waiting any longer, here you go:

So, you are probably wondering what those decisions were, aren't you? Well, not to keep you waiting any longer, here you go:
- Meeting location - as you know, we changed the meeting location from Gustaf's to the library this time to make sure everyone would be comfortable. The group decided that they wanted to rotate the meeting location as much as possible. I was tasked with finding some new locations for the next several weeks and to bring a schedule with me to our class next week.
- Meeting date & time - there were some ideas to change the meeting date to Monday, but in the end everyone voted to keep it on Tuesdays from 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm.
- Fun activity - the group decided to do something fun together once every 6 weeks. It was decided that the group would make a decision on what this activity would be & that it had to be a unanimous decision. We will having our first activity at the mall and I'll give more details about that later on.
- Parents driving - everyone wasn't that happy that their parents were driving them home. It seems like everyone really enjoyed that time together in the car on the way home. Unfortunately, there were no options to change this at this time unless the group decides to split into 2 groups - and no one wanted to do that.
I'll post a schedule once I get that finished.
